Hawkeye Training Camp 2023
The Hawkeye Tryouts will be used to determine the best-fit team for each of our interested players. We ask that ALL interested players, including those returning from last year, attend our tryouts in order to be properly evaluated. We guarantee that everyone who attends will make a team!

Tryouts will be led by our coaches and captains, and will run for about an hour. Experienced players will participate in skill-based drills and small-area games. Those new to the game of hockey will begin learning basic skating and stickhandling skills. A "Tryouts Carpool" will be set-up for those without access to a car.
We prefer players wear full gear, but we understand that many of our new players do not have any equipment. With this in mind, we highly encourage full gear, but we ask that players who do not own gear at least find a helmet, gloves, and shin pads before our Training Camp (skates can be rented at the rink, and the team can provide extra sticks). We will set up a date and time for our returning players to take any new players to find gear at the local Play It Again Sports and/or Scheels.

At our Hawkeye Training Camp, players will be evaluated and placed onto our Travel Team OR In-House Team. Results will be posted on our private Facebook page shortly after the completion of the Training Camp, with official practices starting the next week.

Travel Team:
This team includes experienced hockey players. This team will play Home and Away games in the Women's Central Hockey League (WCHL). Practices will occur every Monday at 9:15pm-10:15pm and Thursday from 9:45pm-10:45pm at the Coral Ridge Ice Area. The Travel Team will be expected to pay full player dues and be 100% committed to attending all practices and traveling to games across the Midwest.

In-House Team:
This team will include players who are newer to the sport of hockey. We believe this team is a great opportunity for new players to fully develop their hockey skills while still being able to play games and practice with our Travel Team. The In-House team will play home scrimmages against other teams in the Iowa City Area. Practices will occur every Monday with the Travel Team from 9:45 pm -10:45 pm at the Coral Ridge Ice Arena. Optional off-ice workout sessions will take place at the University of Iowa Field House every Thursday night. The In-House Team will be expected to pay 1/2 of our player dues.
